1. What cookies are
Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. They allow the site to recognise your device, remember your actions and preferences, and operate reliably. We also use similar technologies such as browser local storage, session storage and pixels; wherever this policy says “cookies”, those technologies are included.
Cookies may be set by us (first-party cookies) or by a service we use (third-party cookies). They may last only for your browsing session (session cookies) or remain until they expire or are deleted (persistent cookies).
2. Why we use cookies
We use cookies to:
- keep you signed in and protect your account and session;
- secure forms and detect abusive or automated traffic;
- remember your settings, such as your cookie choices;
- measure how the site and product are used, in aggregate, so we can improve them;
- where you allow it, measure the effectiveness of our marketing communications.
We do not use cookies to build advertising profiles about individuals, and we do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising as those terms are defined under the CCPA/CPRA.
3. Types of cookies we use
3.1 Strictly necessary cookies
These are required for the service to function and cannot be switched off in our systems. They include authentication and session tokens, security and anti-abuse signals, load-balancing identifiers, and the record of your cookie choices. Under the ePrivacy Directive and UK PECR these cookies are exempt from the consent requirement because they are strictly necessary to deliver a service you requested.
3.2 Analytics cookies
These help us understand which pages are visited, which features are used and where people encounter difficulty. Analytics data is aggregated and used for product improvement only. Analytics cookies are set only after you give consent, and are disabled immediately if you withdraw it.
3.3 Functional cookies
These remember choices you make — such as interface preferences, saved filters, language and recently viewed records — so the product behaves consistently between visits. Declining them does not prevent you using Pactly, but some conveniences will reset each time.
3.4 Marketing cookies
Marketing cookies would be used to measure campaign performance and to show relevant messaging on other platforms. We do not currently operate marketing cookies. The category is presented in our preference centre so that, if we introduce them, they will only ever run where consent already exists for that purpose.
4. Third-party cookies
Some cookies may be set by providers acting on our behalf. Where we introduce such providers — for example web analytics or product-usage measurement — they are engaged as processors under written terms, are limited to the purposes we specify, and are loaded only after the relevant consent category is enabled.
Our infrastructure and authentication providers may set strictly necessary cookies to route requests and maintain secure sessions. Third parties set their own cookies under their own policies; we encourage you to review them where relevant.
5. Cookie retention periods
- Session cookies — deleted when you close your browser.
- Authentication and session tokens — typically up to 30 days, or until you sign out.
- Cookie consent record — stored for up to 12 months, after which we ask again.
- Functional preferences — typically up to 12 months.
- Analytics cookies — typically between 24 hours and 24 months depending on the identifier.
We also re-request consent whenever this policy or our cookie categories change materially, by increasing the consent version we store.
6. Managing your cookie preferences
When you first visit, a banner asks you to accept all cookies, reject all non-essential cookies, or open the preference centre to choose by category. No optional cookie is set before you make that choice.
You may change or withdraw your consent at any time, and withdrawal is as easy as giving it — select Cookie settings in the footer of any page, or use the button below.
We record the categories you selected, the timestamp of your choice and the policy version in force, so that we can demonstrate a valid record of consent.
7. Browser controls
Most browsers let you view, block and delete cookies through their settings, and offer a private browsing mode that clears cookies at the end of a session. Blocking strictly necessary cookies will prevent you from signing in and using core features of Pactly. Clearing your browser storage also clears our record of your cookie choices, so the banner will appear again on your next visit.
8. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to the processing of personal data collected through cookies, to data portability, and to withdraw consent at any time without affecting the lawfulness of processing carried out before withdrawal (GDPR and UK GDPR). Residents of California may have the right to know, delete, correct and to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information, and not to be discriminated against for exercising those rights (CCPA/CPRA).
We honour recognised opt-out preference signals such as Global Privacy Control where your browser transmits them. To exercise any right, contact us using the details below. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this Cookie Policy to reflect changes in the technologies we use or in legal requirements. The date at the top of this page shows when it was last revised. Where changes are material, we increase our stored consent version, which invalidates previous choices and prompts you to review your preferences again.
